Film vs Digital

Digital vs. Film โ€” The Short Story:
Digital photography gives you instant results, easy editing, and unlimited shots without extra cost. Itโ€™s fast, flexible, and perfect for experimenting or sharing online.
Film, on the other hand, offers a nostalgic, artistic feel with rich tones and depth that many photographers still love. It slows you downโ€”in a good wayโ€”making every frame more intentional and rewarding.

“In photography there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality”?

๐Ÿ‘‹ Note from Ed

I walked down to the lake last night just before sunset โ€” the air was still, the surface glassy. When I saw a single golden leaf drifting by, I realized this was natureโ€™s quiet goodbye to autumn. ๐Ÿ‚ Moments like that are what make photography special โ€” not the gear, but the pause. So this week, slow down, breathe the season in, and let your camera follow your heart.

Low-Light Mastery – Autumn’s Secret Light

As daylight fades, shadows deepen โ€” but thatโ€™s not a problem, itโ€™s an opportunity.

Tips for mastering the mood:

  • Bump ISO (800โ€“1600): Modern sensors handle noise well.

  • Open wide: Use f/2.8 or wider to pull in more light.

  • Slow it down: Try 1/30 or slower and hold steady โ€” or brace against a wall or tree.

  • White balance: Set manually around 5200 K to keep warm tones true.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Pro Tip: Shoot during twilight โ€” five minutes after sunset often produces your richest colors.

Q&A Questions

Q: How do I avoid lens flare when shooting into the low autumn sun?
A: Great question! Try these:

  • Always use a lens hood or shade your lens with your hand.

  • Step to the side โ€” even a few inches can change the angle of light and remove flare.

  • Keep your lens spotlessly clean (dust and smudges catch light).

  • And if you like the look of controlled flare? Tilt slightly and embrace it for atmosphere!

๐Ÿ’ก Answer to Trivia Question:

That quote came from Alfred Stieglitz, one of photography’s earliest visionaries.
He believed every photograph should feel as real as life itself.
